This neighbourhood, established in the 1930's and home to both the Morrell family and the likes of C S Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien, is along Headington Road and Headley Way east of the city centre. Oxford Brookes University is located here and also many of Oxford's world famous hospitals; John Radcliffe, Nuffield, Churchill, Warneford and the newest Manor Hospital are all within this area. Easy access by bus to the city centre and also to ring road for those travelling out of Oxford or to Oxford Business Park or BMW plant.
Headington's main employers are medicine, education, and research; it has a large and growing population. In the centre of Headington are a number of shops, pubs, cafes, restaurants, and other services. The area also contains the main campus of Oxford Brookes University, the Ruskin House campus of Ruskin College and the city's main hospitals, including the John Radcliffe and Churchill. Oxford United were originally known as Headington United and their home ground until 2001, the Manor Ground (now demolished), had its main entrance on London Road.
